Ness Gardens

Visited Ness Gardens at the weekend. It was a bright and sunny afternoon and I took plenty of photographs. This view is the pine wood, one of my favourite places.

Was at the Mall Galleries on Tuesday evening for the reception for prize winners in the Caran D'ache contest. Lovely evening meeting the other finalists, judges and other guests.

Rosa

Rosa
Watercolour and Gouache
This painting was based on photographs I took last year when it was always raining. It was fun to paint as there is quite a bit of colour to it to make it interesting and painting the tangle of leaves was a challenge.

Iris

This painting was based on sketches and photographs I took at Ness Botanic Gardens. I thought the colour of the Iris was most striking. The light in this painting is also quite powerful. I enjoy painting Irises, they have long been one of my favourite flowers.

A sunny day in June at Ness Botanic Gardens. There are always plenty of seats throughout the gardens for people to relax and enjoy the views.

Camellia

The painting is finished. Once I started adding the raindrops I got carried away with it and did not want to stop. It's quite sad when you finish a painting, especially when you have worked on it a long time, you get attached to it. I usually have about four to five paintings on the go so still plenty to keep me busy.

Camellia No.4

In this photograph I have started to increase the depth of washes on the leaves trying to be careful to leave lighter areas. The fun part begins with adding the raindrops.

Camellia No.3

Started adding the first washes on the flower head, it is exciting having a bright colour to paint. Still increasing the depth of the background colour and tonal values of the leaves.
