This painting of 'Viburnum davidii' has been selected to be shown at the NEC in Birmingham at
Art Materials Live. It is on show from 3 - 6th of November 2011.
I painted it in watercolour using sketches and photographs taken at Ness Botanic Gardens. It took a long time to paint as there are so many raindrops.

The above paintings are two of four that have been selected to be shown at the Williamson Art Gallery.
Iris
While I was visiting Ness Gardens, I came across this beautiful Iris. I was particularly drawn to the strong contrast of light and shadow. I felt it would make an interesting painting. I painted this in watercolour.
Autumn Leaves
I was at a local garden centre admiring the plants. It had just stopped raining and the sun came out. I had my camera with me so could not resist taking photographs. I painted this picture in watercolour and gouache.

This is a botanical painting in watercolour of an Orchid called Nelly Isler. I bought it from a local garden centre to paint. Unfortunately it died. I did pull a lot of flowers off it to examine them. I also uprooted it to examine the roots. I think it did not like it. I painted this one last year. I like painting Orchids I find them quite fascinating. I got a new A3 scanner for a birthday present, and suddenly all my white backgrounds are white, not a dull grey. I will now be able to post more botanicals from now on.
